What is an Active Directory (AD) account?

An AD account gives you secure access to internal resources on the server and, if needed, physical access to computers on the home network. With an AD account, you can:
  • Log in to domain‑joined computers in the house
  • Access shared folders and internal services
  • View cameras and recordings
  • Connect through VPN from anywhere
  • Access private content not available to the public
If you plan to use any of these features — especially logging into physical computers — you will need an AD account.

How the process works

  1. Fill out the AD account request form (username, first/last name, email).
  2. The administrator will create your domain account.
  3. Your temporary password will be emailed directly to the address you provided.
  4. You will receive follow‑up emails from ADSelfService Plus prompting you to set your permanent password and complete enrollment.
  5. Once your password is set, you can log in to VPN, domain computers, and all internal services.

Request your AD account

VPN Access

After your AD password is set, you can connect to the server using VPN.
We support two VPN protocols:
  • L2TP/IPsec — recommended for most devices
  • SSTP — recommended when L2TP is blocked (hotels, airports, corporate Wi‑Fi)
